How do you deploy a Private DNS Network in my datacenters?
If you operate your own datacenter footprints, we just need hardware and connectivity in your datacenters to deploy your Private DNS Network. We'll work with you to understand your use case and recommend hardware and connectivity to suit your application. Once you hand over access to servers on your network for us to use, we'll take over the servers, lock them down, and deploy our NS1 Platform Technology. We'll maintain and operate the network for you, and we'll work with you directly to address hardware or connectivity issues, schedule upgrades, etc.
I don’t have datacenters, can you build a network for me?
Yes. We can deploy Private DNS Networks with global presence, fully anycasted, on dedicated hardware. If you're leveraging the NSONE Global DNS Network, we can ensure your Private DNS Network is fully isolated from our Global DNS Network for maximum reliability.
How does NS1's Hybrid DNS work?
Because your Private DNS Network is managed through the same control plane (portal, API, etc) as our Global DNS Network, we can take care of the orchestration to ensure your DNS zones, records, config changes, and even real-time Data Feeds are seamlessly replicated across both networks, instantly. By specifying nameservers from both networks with your registrar, resolvers can do lookups on either network. What are the use cases for Private and Hybrid DNS?
There are a variety of reasons our customers deploy Private and Hybrid DNS Networks. Most frequently, our Private DNS customers want dedicated delivery resources that are not shared with other customers. Many of our customers are sophisticated enough to maintain and operate their own world class IP networks and prefer to leverage their existing network and datacenter resources for DNS delivery, while taking advantage of NS1's groundbreaking platform technology. Sometimes, there are security motivations: because Private DNS can live on premise in your datacenters, you have full control over access to your zones and records and can easily restrict queries to come from internal sources (or even private IP space) — an added layer of security for internal zones. And of course, Hybrid DNS offers the holy grail of dual network reliability without the hassles of orchestrating complex routing setups across incompatible providers.
Do Private DNS Networks support recursive DNS?
Yes. In addition to all of NS1's industry leading authoritative DNS platform features, Private DNS Networks can optionally be configured in recursive or forwarding configurations. A common use case is for internal DNS systems that provide recursion for servers or systems in your datacenter, and also authoritative responses for internal zones.
